Charles DarwinErasmus DarwinArtistic Director, Alex Laing, says:

The name Darwin holds close associations for me. While at Cambridge I used to receive supervisions in Charles Darwin's old rooms at Christ's College, and on moving to Lichfield my first home was next door to Erasmus Darwin's old house. Erasmus, the physician and botanist, was Charles' grandfather; his herb garden is still open to the public in Lichfield Cathedral Close.

The name Darwin is intimately associated with the theory of evolution. The Darwin Ensemble is designed to be able to "evolve" into any combination and size to fit the occasion.
